Do anniversaries matter if you’re not in a great place as a couple?
One year celebrating felt fake because things were rough, so we skipped it. That actually felt more honest at the time.
We still acknowledged it quietly. It didn’t fix anything, but it reminded us why we started, which helped a little.
I think it really depends on the couple. For some, skipping it feels more honest than pretending. For others, a quiet acknowledgment, even just sitting down and being real about the year, can actually do something. There’s no rule it has to be a celebration.
