Do personality tests help couples understand each other or just put people in boxes?
Helpful at first, then kind of annoying once it turned into excuses. We definitely crossed that line a few times.
It gave us some insight, but we had to keep reminding ourselves it doesn’t excuse bad behavior.
I think they can be both. The most useful part for me wasn’t the actual results, it was the conversations they kicked off. Having language for things you’d already kind of noticed makes them easier to talk about.
The boxing in usually happens when someone starts using the label as an excuse instead of a starting point. “I’m just like this” can shut things down fast.
