“I never trust him” is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and honestly? You don’t need to talk yourself out of that feeling. It’s there for a reason.
Trust doesn’t come back because time passes or because he says sorry enough times. It comes back (if it does) because what he does actually changes, and stays changed, for a long time. Not because you decide to just try harder to believe him.
And if part of you isn’t sure you even want to rebuild it, that’s not a character flaw. That’s just you being honest.
If you want a neutral person in the room instead of going back and forth just the two of you, this might help.
