Is it possible to successfully use therapy to deal with a female sociopath?
When people talk about sociopaths, they are typically referring to antisocial personality disorder. This condition is difficult to treat. Individuals with antisocial personality disorder lack empathy, and they have a hard time considering others’ needs. Therapy can be effective if the person is willing to make changes, but oftentimes, people with this disorder are not willing to engage in therapy. They may not see the point, or perhaps they think nothing is wrong.
The bottom line is that it’s extremely challenging to treat this disorder. Unless the person is willing to engage in treatment and totally committed to change, you likely won’t see much benefit from therapy. It’s important to understand this before trying to go into a relationship with someone with antisocial personality disorder.
